Hi. My husband, Charles Malspeis, died at Playa Bandera on June 17, 2011, while we were on our honeymoon. There are no words to express my sorrow. I am still in awe over the outpouring of love and compassion by the local community, including the Red Cross and local law enforcement. The water scared me. I told my husband I was afraid to swim and I asked him not to go. He told me not to worry... Yes. We had been warned that the currents could be dangerous and that others had drowned in the near vicinity. Something good has to come from this. I realize that it would not be possible to post lifeguards in these remote areas; however, what about signage? Is there a way that signs could be posted warning people of the danger? I'm working on funding to do something in my hsuband's memory.

I am extremely impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it’s rare to see a nice blog like this one today..

Susan Lieb asked us to post this for her.
Susan says:
"This last week end I watched the new to see the situation in parrita and couldn't think what I could do then I remembered Food is what is needed when you loose everything at least if your tummy is fully you have the energy to dig out of the mess. so Lea and I started making sandwiches. then ann came to help followed by christine and martha. then as we where buying bread at supersol Beau said they would help and brought two bags of sandwiches . off we went in the car and could only get to Los |suenos parrita people where standing on the road so we handed them out and came home then got the roasting pan out and started making hot food. and more sandwiches.
Then Sandy and |Willy gave us rice and 10 kilos of pork that we turned into a very very large stew. and fed more people.
all in all we figure 500 sandwiches where made. plus stew and rice and anything we could get our hands on gave a lot of people smiles.
So I would like to thank
ALL THOSE THAT CAME OUT TO HELP ESPECIAL THE RENTERS AT CHRISTINE HOUSE PETER AND JEN. FOR THERE DONATION OF DOLLARS .
They had only been in town one day but helped buy a lot of bread.
Thanks again and well done to all

What a difference a day makes! When we wnt to Parrita yesterday to drop off clothing, and bedding and other assorted household and sanitary items, most of the water had receded. The sun was out drying things off and we actually saw some guys playing futbol in the soccer field. Most folks were cleaning their homes, cars and businesses, all of which are full of mud and gravel. Many roads have been undercut, and it seems that the Parrita river was flowing across the entire area. The landscape has changed, with most of the farmland looking more like an old riverbed than crop fields. The old bridge which had been torn from its footings in the flood, rests precariously against the new bridge. The new bridge seems to be relatively unaffected, and traffic was moving normally. The main street was dry, and many stores are now open again.
Things are generally improving, but it will be a long time before things are truly back to normal. Most of the big problems are hidden below the surface with broken pipes and cables under the streets and sidewalks. It will take months if not years to fix the infrastructure of Parrita, because many of the problems will manifest slowly, and concrete and pavement will have to be removed to fix a lot of them.
Virtually every house in Parrita seems affected, and most houses need to be completely emptied to be cleaned and repaired. Many people have lost most of their belongings in the flood.
The Red Cross is collecting and distributing donated goods, and they seem to know where the help is needed most. Anyone who wishes to go help may want to stop in and see the folks at the Red Cross building next to the fire department. Physical help is certainly appreciated as well as donations, so if you have a good back and want to pitch in, bring a shovel!
