What can I say? Last minute scheduling, early nite, it all seemed wrong. That is, until we got set up at 6 pm. Right off the bat we found some new talent on vacation, and Jesse got up and rocked the house with guitar and drum skills. Jesse was here on his honeymoon with new bride Jessica, congatulations!! We know we will see you both again. Another fresh face in the lineup was Andy who brought some nice licks on guitar. Cooper was back in full force, and brought the evening to a higher level, but that wouldn’t have happened without Shannon either, who in my opinion killed it that night, with both fiddle, guitar, and some skeletons from the closet (GD). Stevan was another newcomer, a local student of the guitar, and many props to him for “like a rolling stone”, among others. Cooper’s guitar solo on hotel california was great, and we just kept it going until time ran out. Great crowd! Great tunes! More on the next one next time. Out.

We had a fun night Wednesday April 8th 2009 at El Vagos.
I hosted the first open mike and some great players showed up.
First, Andy and I played some of his original songs. Then I heard some other music on the beach, and went to investigate. Mickey joined us for some Venezuelan and Costa Rican traditional music, some La Bomba, more La Bomba later on.
Then Mike and Mitch showed up bearing tiny guitars that played really well as was evidenced in their repertoire of classic rock, blues and alternative rock songs.
Legend hung in there all night on the harps, and filled out the sound nicely, as usual and Paul kept the fun rolling- breaking out tunes we didn’t expect like Men at Work’s “Overkill”.
We played until about an hour after they closed the bar.
All in all it was a very fun entertaining evening of live music.
All musicians are invited to attend the next open mike, this Wednesday evening. The more the merrier. Come out to El Vagos and have a sunset drink on the beach, grab a pizza, and we will start this week’s session at 7 pm.
Even if you only know a couple songs, come out and play them. There is a guitar all set to go, or we can mike your acoustic.
Any bass players out there? Come this week please!
Thanks Kate!
